GUIDELINES

  • Eligibility

    • We do not accept previously published material or nonoriginal work. Plagiarism is no joke, folks!

    • However, we do accept simultaneous submissions, with the expectation that writers withdraw their submission if accepted elsewhere.

    • We accept up to 5 submissions of any type (poetry or prose) per writer per submission period.

    • Work must relate to the chosen writers for the upcoming issue in some way (see About page for more information).
  • Formatting Requirements

    • We require 1-inch (2.54-cm) margins on all sides, single-spacing, and 12-point Times New Roman font.

    • In the upper header, please include your name on the left, the title of your piece in the center, and page number on the right. For example,

    • For poetry, we have a limit of 50 lines per poem.

    • For prose, we have a limit of 5,000 words per piece.

WHEN YOUR WORK IS ACCEPTED BY I&A

  • We will notify you by e-mail that your work has been chosen to appear in the magazine.

  • Work accepted for publication will be edited stylistically according to the Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition) and Webster’s New World Dictionary (4th edition).

  • If you no longer wish that your work appear in I&A for any reason, notify us immediately. Otherwise, you will receive further details from us concerning publication of your work.

IF YOUR WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED BY I&A

  • We will attempt to provide feedback for those who request it. If you would like feedback on your work, please indicate this in the comment section of the submission form.

  • Please submit to I&A again in another submission period with a new poet-writer combination!

*Note: Additional comments are just for extra instructions (if needed) or any other extra words for the editors of Imitation & Allusion and will not show up in the finished product.

Terms & Conditions

By submitting your work to Imitation & Allusion, you grant I&A first-time electronic publication rights, the right to archive your work online for an indefinite period of time, and the right to republish it in a future electronic and/or print anthology. Once the I&A issue featuring your work has been published, you are free to republish your work as you wish. In case of republication, we ask that you acknowledge Imitation & Allusion as the original place of publication.
